Wash care for Sarees

Sarees are one of the most precious outfits for Indian women. Purchasing is a big deal as one should select through various verities, colours and price. And again saree care and saree wash is something challengeable. Today, owning a silk sari meant not only the initial price of the garment but also the cost of dry cleaning. All silk sarees are washable. Most silk sarees(pattu sarees) can be hand washed. Technically, silk saree does not shrink like other fabric. A good shampoo works well for cleaning a silk sari . It will remove oil and revitalize your silk saree.

Maintaining your silk sarees
  • Dry-Cleaning is Preferable Generally silk sarees should be dry-cleaned. In hand washing, the consistency of the silk may be altered, depending on the finishing treatment used to give it sheen and the colour may run. Chlorine bleach damages silk and causes it to yellow.
  • Washing Silks Certain pre-wash techniques have made certain washable. Raw silk, china silk, India silk, crepe de chine, Pongee, Shantung, tussar, dupion and jacquard silks are safer to wash. After washing, one should roll in a towel to remove the excess moisture, and then hang on to dry on a padded hanger.
  • Stains Stained silk sarees should be dry-cleaned as soon as possible. Dyes and sizings tend to discolour with moisture. Therefore attempting to remove stains with water is not recommended without first testing the silk for colour fastness. It is difficult to remove a concentrated food or beverage stain. Scrubbing or pressing could ruin the fabric.
  • Protein Stains  These stains include blood, deodorant, egg, meat juices and perspiration. To clear such stains, first detergent should be applied to the garment. Then it should be soaked in cool water and laundered. In case of persistent stains, rubbing a mixture of a few drops of Nh2 with hydrogen peroxide should be tried.
  • Combination Stains  These stains include chocolate, gravy, ice-cream and milk. First a dry-clean solvent should be applied and then dried. The protein part of the stain supplement can be treated by applying liquid detergent and rinsing with cool water. Then after using a prewash stain remover, the silk should be washed in the hottest water that it can stand.
  • Nailpolish Stain  This can be treated by rubbing acetone on the area.
  • Lipstick Stains First Dry-cleaning fluids and then washing in soap and water can be used to remove lipstick stains.
  • Grease These stains are usually caused by oils, butter, margarine, crayon, medicines and oil-based cosmetics. Dabbing on talc immediately will lift the stain. After brushing off the talc, a stain remover can be applied and the silk should be washed in the hottest water that it can stand.

About Georgette Fabric :
Georgette is a fabric made from silk, although these days synthetic fibers such as polyester are sometimes used as well. The thing that makes georgette fabric distinctive is the crinkly crepe-light texture, which feels slightly rough and dull, but gives the fabric a bouncy, flowing look. Many fabric stores carry georgette fabric in a range of colors and prints for various projects. Department stores also carry clothing and drapery made from georgette.

Washing & Cleaning Instruction :
As a general rule, georgette fabric can be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent and hung to dry, although it should be kept out of the sun to avoid fading.

About Chiffon Fabric :
Chiffon is a textile made from silk, cotton, nylon, polyester, or rayon. It tends to be sheer, with a faint shimmer and a simple weave. When held up to the light, chiffon strongly resembles closely woven netting. Chiffon is generally used in evening and formal wear, since it drapes well and can add a floaty look to gowns and dresses. It is also notoriously difficult to work with, because of the slippery texture of the fabric. Most fabric stores carry several forms of chiffon in varying colors. The name comes from an Old French word for rag.

Washing & Cleaning Instruction :
However, the fabric is still delicate enough that it should be hand washed with cold water only and never run through a washing machine.

As a general rule, one should work slowly and steadily with chiffon, taking care not to run it through a sewing machine too quickly or it will bunch and gather.

About Crepe Fabric :
The word crape is the English form of the French word crepe. Crape, or crepe, is a type of silk fabric. Crepe de Chine, or Canton crape, is soft and has a wavy look to its surface. The other kind of crape is associated with Great Britain rather than China and is hard with a crimped, or crisp, appearance.

Soft crape is used to make Indian saris for many reasons. It's a season-spanning fabric that is easy to care for. Since it has a naturally wrinkled-looking texture to start with it needs little, if any, ironing.

Also, soft crape is airy and wraps and drapes well on the body. Fancy evening crape saris often feature embroidery in metallic threads and sparkling beads or gems.

Washing or Cleaning Instruction :
Crepe (Silk fabric), Dry-clean, Cool iron, Polyester Crepe (Special fabric), Hand wash or Cool machine wash

About Brasso Fabric :
Brasso fabric is a unique type of fabric in which the layers are burned to form the design. Dramatic effects and colors are created that are not possible with simple dye methods.

Brasso fabric is often seen in the beautiful Indian saris or sarees. The chiffon Brasso fabrics have a flattering drape that is well suited to a sari. The vibrant colors and special effects also compliment traditional sari styles.

Washing or Cleaning Instruction :
Dry Clean Only. Do not iron directly
